Kumasi Nov. 27, GNA – The Muslim Peace and Reconciliation Committee (MPRC), under the office of the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam is calling on all Muslims to remain calm whilst the issue of religious intolerance at Wesley Girls’ SHS unfolds at the courts.
A statement signed by Mr Usraz Burhanu Deen Babal, and issued in Kumasi on Thursday, said the Committee had taken note of the court verdict ordering Wesley Girls’ School to respond to the lawsuit filed against it.
It said it was important for all Muslims and the public to remain calm and peaceful as the legal process continued at the law courts.
The statement urged fellow Muslims to respect the rule of law and the decisions of the courts.
It further advised Muslims to adhere to the bylaws and regulations of all institutions, including schools, to promote peace and harmony.
The Committee emphasised the need for Islamic institutions to strive for excellence and meet international standards.
It said it was important for Islamic institutions to build stronger reputation that reflected Islamic values and ethics, to serve as beacons of hope for Muslim communities.
The Committee urged all Muslims to continue to work towards promoting peace, understanding, and coexistence, urging them to focus on building a brighter future for themselves and their generations.
The Wesley Girls SHS has been accused of religious intolerance against Muslim students by restricting their religious practice, which a lawsuit argues violates their constitutional rights.
The school’s policies reportedly require all students to participate in Methodist religious activities, while also allegedly prohibiting Muslim students from observing prayers, fasting, and wearing the hijab.
