Awudome-Kwanta (V/R), Nov. 27, GNA – Mr Gershon Aggor, a 51-year-old farmer from Kwanta, a farming community in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, has been named the 2025 Overall Best District Farmer for Ho West.
The seasoned farmer, who has over the years invested heavily in diversified crops and livestock production, was honoured at a colourful ceremony held at Awudome-Kwanta as part of the district’s celebration of the 41st National Farmers’ Day.
Mr Aggor currently manages an impressive agricultural enterprise, which includes 25 acres of maize, six acres of rice, nine acres of cocoa, seven acres of cassava, five acres of okro, six acres of pepper, two acres of garden eggs, 10 acres of plantain, and an acre of banana. His livestock component consists of 53 ducks and 45 local fowls, demonstrating his commitment to mixed farming and sustainable food production.

For his outstanding contribution to agriculture in the district, Mr Aggor received a motorbike, a bag of fertilizer, a spraying machine, a pair of Wellington boots, cutlass, and a certificate.
Addressing the gathering, the Ho West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Francis Profer Dusey, highlighted the significance of the National Farmers’ Award scheme, which was instituted in 1983 to honour the resilience of farmers and fishers following a devastating drought.
He said this year’s theme, “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” aligned with the government’s Feed Ghana initiative, a four-year strategic programme aimed at ensuring national food security by encouraging increased local production and consumption.
Mr Dusey urged the youth to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in agriculture, describing the sector as not only lucrative but also crucial to national development.
The Ho West District Director of the Department of Food and Agriculture (DoFA), Mr Seth Asuo, encouraged farmers to embrace modern farming practices and technologies to boost productivity and improve livelihoods.

In his remarks, Mr Aggor expressed gratitude to the government and the district authorities for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting food production in the area. He also appealed to young people to venture into farming, stressing that agriculture remains a rewarding and sustainable career.
A total of 17 farmers were honoured during the ceremony for their contributions to agricultural development in the district. Their prizes included spraying machines, Wellington boots, cutlasses, fertilizers, gas cylinders, agrochemicals, television sets, and certificates.
The event was chaired by Togbega Addai Kwasi Dzani XIII, Paramount Chief of the Awudome Traditional Area, who commended the farmers for their hard work and dedication to feeding the nation.
