Dzodze (V/R), Nov. 25, GNA – Mr Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, in collaboration with Poll Eye Clinic at Dzodze, has successfully concluded a large-scale free eye screening and surgery, bringing critical eye care services to hundreds of residents across the constituency.
The week-long exercise, which ended on Thursday, recorded an impressive turnout of 3,017 people undergoing free screening, out of which 2,772 received essential eye medications, 679 were provided with medicated spectacles, and 338 individuals were scheduled for sight-restoring surgeries.
Health officials from Poll Eye Clinic told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the surgical procedures for the booked patients would be conducted between December 3rd to December 5th, 2025.
All beneficiaries would be transported to and from the health facility at no cost, ensuring that financial constraints did not hinder access to treatment, they said.
“No burden, no barrier, just hope restored,” a medical officer said, explaining that the initiative was designed to remove every obstacle that prevents residents from receiving quality eye care.
Mr Agbana described the project as a fulfilment of his commitment to prioritise the wellbeing of his constituents.
“This is what I meant when I promised to put people first,” he said and indicated that “By God’s grace, we will keep showing up for our people, again and again.”
Some beneficiaries who spoke with the GNA expressed deep gratitude, stating that the intervention had rekindled their hope of regaining their vision.
“I didn’t know I could ever see again, but what the doctors told me has given me hope,” said Daa Abla, a resident of Penyi. “They gave me medicine to start using, and I’m praying for a successful surgery.”
Others, including students and elderly residents, commended the MP and the medical team for bringing free, quality healthcare directly to the people, describing the outreach as timely and life-changing.
The initiative forms part of the MP’s broader health support agenda aimed at addressing preventable visual impairment and promoting community wellbeing in Ketu North.
