Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday condemned the Tamale High Court’s decision to nullify the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency.Â
As a result, the Caucus described the ruling as “unsupported by the facts presented in court.”
A statement signed by Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, and issued to the Ghana News Agency said, “The facts did not support the ruling.”
The court had declared the election invalid, citing clerical errors in 41 polling stations, despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate’s own witness admitting that the disputed votes totaled only about 500.
Mr Mathew Nyindam, the then NPP candidate, won the election with 27,947 votes, defeating his NDC rival Mr Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who secured 24,213 votes.
Consequently, Mr Nyindam was sworn in as the MP-elect for the constituency.
The statement insisted that the election was transparent, and the results accurately reflected the will of the voters, adding that the Caucus had filed a notice of appeal and an application for stay of execution.
“The election was conducted in a transparent manner. The results reflected the choice of the people,” it quoted Mr Afenyo-Markin.
The statement expressed confidence that the appellate process would uphold the democratic choice of the people of Kpandai.
