Tsledom (E/R), Nov. 14, GNA – The Japanese Government through its Embassy’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGHSP) has funded and commissioned US$7,000 CHPS compound for Tsledom in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The facility forms part of efforts to strengthen community-based healthcare delivery in underserved areas and reflects the deepening partnership between Ghana and Japan, aimed at promoting grassroots human security through targeted health interventions.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ms. Yamoto Mizuki, Representative of the Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, described the project as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Ghana and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s primary healthcare system.
“We are glad to contribute to improving healthcare delivery in this community,” Ms. Mizuki said.
Mr. Godfried Ofoe Caesar, Eastern Regional School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator, noted that the CHPS compound was the outcome of his health room (sick bay) initiative launched in February 2017.
He recalled that the establishment of health rooms in six basic schools in the municipality helped detect and prevent a yaws outbreak among school children in July 2017.
The incident, he said, prompted a collaborative response from municipal health and education stakeholders, including the municipal assembly, to pursue improved healthcare for Tsledom and surrounding communities.
“I thank God for the manifestation of a dream, from a health room to a CHPS compound,” he said.
The maternity block of the facility has been named after Mr. Caesar in recognition of his efforts.
He expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan and GGHSP, and acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Mrs. Akosua Owusu Sarpong, former Municipal Director of Health; Mr. Simon Kweku Tetteh, former Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive.
Others included Mr. Fred Nortey, School-based Health Coordinator; Mr. Kofi Teye, Headteacher of Tsledom M/A Basic School; and the entire staff.
Dr. Damien Punguyire, Eastern Regional Director of Health, noted that the health facility would serve Tsledom and nearby communities, providing maternal and child health services, immunization, family planning, health education, and basic clinical care.
He highlighted the health compound’s role in supporting the government’s proposed free primary healthcare policy and commended the chiefs and elders for their dedication, entrusting the facility’s sustainability to their leadership.
