Accra, Nov. 13, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Police Service have launched coordinated security operations in parts of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo regions to arrest suspects involved in recent violent attacks on anti-illegal mining task forces and journalists.
A statement issued in Accra by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters of the GAF said the simultaneous operations began at dawn on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
The swoops were conducted in Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region; Ehi in the Volta Region; and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.
The joint operations were based on credible intelligence, the statement said.
The operation seeks to apprehend individuals linked to recent assaults on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), Police officers, Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) officials, and journalists covering anti-galamsey enforcement duties.
The statement cautioned that any individual or group that obstructed lawful security operations, particularly those targeting illegal mining, would face the full rigours of the law.
It reaffirmed the GAF and the Police Service’s commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring accountability and deterrence against future attacks.
Residents of the affected areas were assured of adequate measures being taken to protect lives and property throughout the exercise.
The GAF and the Police Service urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear as they worked to restore safety and confidence in the ongoing fight against illegal mining.
The security services commended civil society organisations, the media, and members of the public for their firm condemnation of the recent attacks and expressed appreciation for their continued support in the national effort to combat illegal mining and protect the environment.
