Accra, Aug. 14, GNA – The Police Wives Association of Ghana (POLWA) has appealed to the government for emergency support for families displaced by the recent fire at the Accra Central Barracks.
The appeal was made when Mrs Eunice A. Yohuno, President of POLWA, led the Association’s National Executives on a courtesy call on Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, in Accra.
The visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between POLWA and the Ministry and advancing the welfare of police families.
Mrs Yohuno said the fire had displaced several police families and caused significant losses. She appealed to the Ministry to consider providing immediate relief to the affected women to aid their recovery.
The delegation also expressed interest in partnering with the Ministry on capacity‑building programmes to equip members of the Association with skills for economic empowerment.
Dr Lartey commended POLWA for its commitment to the welfare of police families and acknowledged the sacrifices of police spouses in supporting national security.
She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to collaborate with POLWA on capacity‑building initiatives and urged the Association to submit formal requests whenever it required training or technical support.
The Minister assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to provide resource persons to facilitate training in identified areas.
She also highlighted the significance of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Act, 2024 (Act 1121), and urged the Association to support its implementation. Copies of the Act were presented to the delegation to enhance their understanding and support.
The Ministry and POLWA pledged to deepen collaboration to improve the well‑being and resilience of police families across the country.
