UAE advances healthcare with AI and digital technologies

These technologies help doctors respond more quickly, make more accurate diagnoses and treat conditions more effectively.

Aug 14 (TV BRICS/GNA) – The United Arab Emirates’ healthcare system is making greater use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. This was reported byĀ Emirates News AgencyĀ (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

In Abu Dhabi, AI-powered systems are being used to analyse mammograms. Algorithms help to identify changes in tissue structure that may indicate pathological processes.

Smart wards equipped with contactless sensors are being introduced in the emirate’s hospitals. These monitor key indicators of patients’ condition and help assess the risk of falls in advance. Other algorithms are capable of detecting signs of sepsis at an early stage, enabling doctors to begin treatment before the patient’s condition deteriorates sharply.

Connected digital diagnostic systems are in operation in remote areas. These enable on-site examinations and allow audio and video to be transmitted in real time to a doctor for a remote consultation.

In obstetrics, wireless foetal monitoring systems, technologies for the early detection of pregnancy complications, and smart sensors for monitoring premature babies are being used. Non-invasive methods for treating liver tumours using focused ultrasound are being developed.

Dubai is also actively introducing digital technologies into healthcare. Wireless monitoring systems and programmes for triaging patients in Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments help to identify severe cases more quickly and reduce waiting times. In paediatric medicine, brain activity monitoring systems and algorithms are used to predict epileptic seizures and convulsions in advance.

In Fujairah, digital capsules are used to examine the gastrointestinal tract. The patient swallows the capsule, which passes through the digestive system and takes thousands of images. In some cases, this method makes traditional endoscopy unnecessary. In addition, digital systems are used to monitor patients after surgery and to detect potential complications at an early stage.
