Appolonia Methodist Primary School celebrates 80th anniversary

Appolonia (GAR), Nov 15, GNA – The Appolonia Methodist Primary School in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has marked 80 years of existence.

The school, which started with a few local pupils in a small Methodist chapel in 1945, now has 760 pupils.

At a grand ceremony in Appolonia near Dodowa, old pupils from far and near mingled with teachers and pupils to celebrate and pay homage to the school which has shaped the foundation of their lives.

Madam Janet Asantewaa Dosoo, Headteacher of the school, described the school as “the cradle of knowledge.”

She said the school, which began as a local endeavour, had become the pride of the area, shaping the lives of many people who had excelled in public service, entrepreneurship, politics, academia, clergy, and more.

She appealed for more classrooms and furniture to enroll more children and enable them to benefit from the quality education offered by the school.

Mr. Harry Evans Arthur, Kpone Katamanso Municipal Director of Education, admonished both the young and old to choose service, morality, and integrity over greed and corruption.

He said these three virtues were tied to Methodism and had shaped the lives of great men and women in the country.

He emphasised that serving humanity was equivalent to serving God and that having high moral standards meant doing what was right, regardless of who was watching.

He added that integrity was essential for nation-building, as it kept both leaders and followers accountable in their dealings with state resources and fellow human beings.

The school children entertained the guests with poetry recitals, cultural dances, and hymns. An anniversary cake was cut amid glitz and glamour.
