Ashaiman, Oct. 10, GNA -One hundred and forty-four community Police and fire service assistants have been inaugurated to serve within the Ashaiman Municipality under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) module to promote safety, discipline, and youth empowerment.
Mr Freeman Tsekpo, the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), speaking at the ceremony held at the forecourt of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, assured the newly inaugurated personnel of the assembly’s continuous support to ensure the effective discharge of their duties.
He said the assembly would work closely with security agencies to provide logistics and a conducive environment to enable the assistants to serve their communities diligently.
Mr Tsekpo cautioned the personnel to exhibit commitment, professionalism, and dedication in their new roles, stressing that their performance would determine their chances of progressing into mainstream security services.
“This is not just an opportunity to serve but a platform to build your future. Let discipline and patriotism guide you in all your operations,” he emphasised.
Mr Henry Ernest Norgbe, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, commended the YEA and the government for the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention to address youth unemployment.
He recounted his continuous lobbying efforts to ensure that more Ashaiman youth benefited from the programme, adding that he would continue to advocate for similar opportunities for young people in the constituency.
Mr Norgbe urged the personnel to uphold discipline and integrity in their service, noting that such virtues would earn them recommendations when opportunities arose for enlistment into the Ghana Police Service or the Ghana National Fire Service.
He stressed that the attitude and commitment shown during the service will determine the future of the beneficiaries, stating that, “Serve with honour, and the future will remember you kindly.”
Mr Abdul Karim Iddrisu, Ashaiman Director of the YEA, expressed appreciation to the President and the YEA leadership for extending the opportunity to the youth of Ashaiman.
He reminded the recruits that their roles were crucial to maintaining community safety and urged them to carry out their duties with dignity and respect for human rights.
Mr Iddrisu reiterated YEA’s commitment to sustaining and expanding such programmes to empower the youth while supporting national security operations.
The inauguration ceremony attracted officials from the municipal assembly, traditional leaders, families of the recruits, and representatives from the security services, who all commended the initiative as a step toward enhancing security and youth engagement in Ashaiman.
