Farmer with disability shares inspiring story in Agrihouse Foundation’s new media programme

Accra, June 3, GNA – Gifty Nyantsen, a 32-year-old living with a disability, is a farmer who grows cassava and beans at Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region.

Gifty said that although she trained as a dressmaker, she found farming more fulfilling.

She spoke recently with Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director of the Agrihouse Foundation, on their new public-interest media programme, At the Table with Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa.

The programme, launched in collaboration with AgriWatchGH, a platform dedicated to agricultural content, is aimed at highlighting the crucial role of women farmers in Ghana’s food systems, how they are helping to shape the future of food, and how they put food on the table.

The 10-to-15-minute interview programme is hosted by the Executive Director of the Agrihouse Foundation.

“The show will travel across regions of Ghana, engaging women farmers and farmers with disabilities to share their experiences, challenges, and contributions to agriculture and food security,” a release from Agrihouse said.

The initiative also seeks to draw attention to the challenges women farmers face while encouraging stakeholders to support their efforts and help in transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.

At the Table with Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa comes at a time when the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation is marking 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
