Five districts in Western Region selected for free primary health care

Takoradi, June 02, GNA – Five districts within the Western Region have been selected for the pilot phase of President John Dramani Mahama’s Free Primary Health Care initiative.   

They are: Ellembelle, Jomoro, Wassa East, Amenfi West and East Districts.  

The project is expected to make essential healthcare available, accessible, affordable and acceptable bearing in mind cultural and other peculiar needs of the selected districts.   

Mr. Jeremiah Timo, the Deputy Director, Administration at the Regional launch, said the initiative addresses gaps in the system and would improve care and quality.  

Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, called for quality in the services provided by healthcare professionals.  

He said: “Ensure competent care, listen to and value your clients, serve with compassion and dignity.”  

Mr. Nelson said the Regional Coordinating Council was ready to help with the success of the project and called on all the selected Assemblies to play a meaningful role in improving care in their communities.
