Kiev orders emergency power cuts in response to Russian attacks

Kiev, Oct 15, (dpa/GNA) – Emergency power cuts have been ordered across Ukraine, following massive Russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure, the Energy Ministry in Kiev announced via Telegram on Wednesday.

A few parts of the Chernihiv region to the north-east of Kiev, where regular hours-long outages are already in force, were excluded, along with the eastern Donetsk region, the scene of heavy fighting.

The ministry urged the population to conserve power.

Night-time temperatures in many parts of Ukraine are falling well below 10 degrees Celsius.

The beginning of the district heating season has been delayed in many cities, as a result of regular Russian drone and missile attacks on energy infrastructure. Many city dwellers use electricity to heat their apartments.

Ukraine has been warding off a full-scale Russian invasion since February 2022.
