Keta (V/R), Oct. 5, GNA – Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has announced that two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds would be constructed in two different communities each year to enhance access to quality healthcare in the municipality.
He said the initiative would ensure that every community had access to healthcare delivery at their doorstep, thereby improving the quality of life of residents.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the launch of the Keta Municipal Hospital’s 100th anniversary celebration, Mr. Seade explained that the project also aimed to eradicate communicable diseases and expand health education across communities.
“The directive is from President John Dramani Mahama to use 10 per cent of the District Common Fund to construct CHPS compounds in two different communities every year,” he stated.
He noted that the initiative would help address the challenges residents in remote areas face in accessing healthcare and reduce preventable deaths and injuries.
Mr. Seade disclosed that communities such as Seva and Tengekope would benefit from the 2025 phase of the CHPS compound project, adding that preparations were underway to secure land for the facilities.
“Indeed, quality health is the cornerstone of every nation, and the NDC government is a listening one that will always prioritise the well-being of its citizens through the provision of accessible healthcare centres, among others,” he said.
He further pledged that the government, through the Municipal Assembly, would continue to support the Keta Municipal Hospital and appealed to individuals, corporate bodies, and organisations to assist in upgrading the hospital’s infrastructure and services.
Mr. Seade added that the government would consider public appeals to equip the hospital adequately and possibly name it after the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, a native of Keta, in honour of his legacy in promoting health in the area.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Faruk Iddrissu, Administrator of the Keta Municipal Hospital, said the facility faced challenges in its laundry, dental unit, female ward, eye unit theatre, and children’s ward, among others, which required urgent renovation for effective service delivery.
He commended the government for establishing a new Infectious Diseases Centre, which now serves as a surgical ward and intensive care unit (ICU), and the MTN Ghana Foundation for constructing a 60-bed Maternity and Child Health Complex that has improved maternal and child health outcomes.
Other supporters recognised included Amiki Club, a non-profit organisation for its consistent donations of equipment and supplies; Duamenefa Foundation for adopting the children’s and male wards; and Mr. Mawuko Dzikunu, Executive Chairman of Glory Oil Limited, for financing the renovation of the advanced wound care and ulcer wards.
Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Paramount Chief of the Amugo-Vego Traditional Area and Dufia of Anyako-Konu, was also commended for his generous donation and the complete dialysis unit with consumables.
During the launch, the hospital unveiled the logo, cloth, and T-shirt for its 100th anniversary celebration, scheduled for next year, and called on government, development partners, and corporate bodies to join in supporting its transformative health agenda
