Sunyani, (Bono), Oct. 17, GNA – The Reverend Father Albert Kyei Danso, the Chaplain of the Holy Family Ghanaian Catholic Community Church, Pordenone, Italy, has urged the government to invest into, and modernise the nation’s agricultural sector to create more job opportunities for the youth.
He said more employment opportunities for the youth were required for the nation to tackle the growing illegal mining activities head-on.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Rev Fr Danso said agriculture was not only lucrative, but also held huge economic prospects for the nation, saying making the sector more attractive would create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
He said it was imperative for the government to push industrialization through mechanized farming.
Rev Fr Danso said he was worried about the devastating impact of galamsey.
He said: “Presently, it’s unfortunate how kidney-related diseases are becoming alarming in the country”.
He urged Ghanaians to support the government to fight the galamsey menace devoid of partisanship to protect water bodies, forest and vegetative covers.
“Ghana has no option than to stop the galamsey now,” Rev Fr Danso stated.
