Fogah Nukunu extends support to BECE graduates in Ketu South

By Benard Worlali Awumee

Aflao, (V/R), Oct 03, GNA- Mr Fogah Nukunu, a teacher and philanthropist in the Ketu South Municipality, has made a donation to selected graduates of the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The brief ceremony, held on Wednesday afternoon at Avoeme, Aflao, brought together about 30 beneficiaries from across the municipality, many of whom are preparing to gain admission into various Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.

The donated items included mattresses, chop boxes, trunks, and other essential school materials required for boarding students.

Mr Fogah said the initiative was inspired by his desire to help brilliant but needy students who are struggling to continue their education due to financial constraints.

He said: “Education remains the surest tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. I have walked this path before, and I know how it feels when one’s dreams are held back by financial difficulty.

“This is my little way of giving hope and helping these young ones to start their journey to Senior High School with dignity.”

During the event, Mr Fogah made a heartfelt appeal to non-government organisations (NGOs), the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, philanthropic individuals and businesses, and the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection to come to the aid of other BECE graduates, particularly those from the Salakope-Amutinu areas which were hit by recent tidal waves and are yet to receive support.

He explained that the appeal was necessary because many families in these coastal communities continue to suffer the devastating effects of sea erosion, which has destroyed homes and livelihoods, leaving parents unable to afford their wards’ school needs.

“The devastation from the sea has made life unbearable for many families. Most of them, who pleaded for similar help,” Mr Forgah said.

“One young girl even brought her admission letter, and prospectus, begging me to consider her. It was a very emotional moment,” he added

Mr Fogah also took the opportunity to thank individuals and groups who supported him in organising the donation, noting that such efforts, when sustained, can transform the lives of many young people in vulnerable communities.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting education and called on the public to see the welfare of children, especially those affected by poverty and environmental disasters, as a collective responsibility.

Among the beneficiaries was a mother of triplets, who was visibly overwhelmed with gratitude for the kind gesture.

She expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Fogah and his team for extending such timely support to her family, describing the assistance as a great relief.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, she commended the donor for his compassion and urged other benevolent individuals to emulate his example in supporting vulnerable families.

“This help means everything to us,” she said tearfully, adding,” it was difficult trying to provide all the prospectus’ essentials for my children, May God bless Mr Fogah and everyone who contributed to making this possible.”

The initiative has since received praise from community members and education stakeholders in the Ketu South Municipality, who have described Mr Fogah’s act as a shining example of compassion, leadership and social responsibility.
