Accra, Oct. 3, GNA – Sheikh Dr. Amin Mohammed Osei Bonsu, popularly known as Sheikh Dr. Amin Bonsu, has emerged as a prominent figure in Ghana’s health, education, and religious landscape.
He blended traditional wisdom with modern science and Islamic values to impact countless lives across the nation.
Born in 1959 into a family of traditional and alternative medicine practitioners, Dr. Amin Bonsu grew up in Ghana under the guidance of his father, the late Mohammed Osei Bonsu (Nana Bonsu), a renowned herbalist.
This early exposure nurtured a deep empathy for the sick and sparked a lifelong dedication to holistic healing.
A devout Muslim, family man, and community leader, Sheikh Dr. Amin Bonsu is married to Hajia Fati Ibrahim Baryeh and Hajia Yasmin Mohammed Amin and is blessed with four sons and three daughters.
He continues to balance his roles as an Islamic scholar, healthcare professional, and educator with unwavering dedication to family and faith.
Trailblazer in Holistic Healthcare
In 1996, he founded the Amen Scientific Herbal & Alternative Medical Hospital, starting as a modest clinic in Edwinase, Kumasi.
The hospital has since expanded into a national network with branches in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Ho, Bibiani, and beyond.
Under his leadership as CEO, the hospital provides services in naturopathy, osteopathy, homeopathy, and diagnostics, treating complex conditions such as infertility, stroke, kidney and liver disease, and more.
Amen Scientific Hospital also developed Amen Fevermix, a herbal treatment recognized by the Food and Drugs Authority and listed as an Essential Herbal Medicine in Ghana since 2008.
The hospital is the first of its kind to collaborate with academia by offering internship opportunities to students from the KNUST School of Herbal Medicine, further extending its international reputation with trainees from the US, China, and Europe.
His passion for education led to the founding of the Amen College of Health Sciences, which admitted its first cohort in June 2023, offering training in nursing, midwifery, and complementary healthcare.
Leadership in the Ghana Muslim Mission
As National Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM), Dr. Amin Bonsu has driven significant growth in the Mission’s educational and religious activities.
Under his stewardship, GMM has established over 166 schools, including Senior High Schools and the Ghana Muslim Mission College of Education, now upgraded to public status.
His leadership extends to the National Mosque Foundation, the Islamic Education Council, and as Chairman of the Board of Patrons of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA), where he serves as a mentor to Muslim youth and student leaders nationwide.
He regularly organises national conferences, delivers sermons, and champions causes such as moral renewal, community welfare, and youth empowerment through Zakat and social outreach.
Internationally Recognised Authority in Alternative Medicine
Dr. Amin Bonsu’s academic and professional achievements span multiple countries.
After earning his O-level at Techiman Secondary School and an A-level certificate in Economics, he pursued studies in alternative medicine at the Anglo-American Institute of Drugless Therapy (UK), earning degrees in osteopathy, naturopathy, and a PhD in Natural Science.
He also holds qualifications in Accounting, Commercial Law, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language from institutions in Great Britain.
His global experience includes stints in Libya, where he studied and taught Islamic studies, and Japan, where he practiced and researched alternative medicine.
He further enhanced his credentials with a professional certificate in Homoeopathy from India’s Mavelil Homoeo Mission.
Dr. Bonsu is a member of the Ghana Naturopathic Medical Association (GNMA), Federation of Holistic Therapists (UK), American Alternative Medical Association (AAMA), and has served on bodies such as the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) and GHAFTRAM.
