Accra, Oct. 06, GNA – Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, together with other high-profile dignitaries and Ghanaian athletes have received the Baton for the 2026 Commonwealth Games as a symbol of shared connection and diversity among the 74 commonwealth nations and territories.
Ghana’s baton, designed by Albert Obidiaba, a multidisciplinary artiste, carries a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, King Charles III, promoting peace and cooperation.
Mr. Debrah highlighted that the accomplishments of legendary athletes such as Azumah Nelson, Stanley, Joshua Owusu, Ignatius Gaisah, and others have secured Ghana a notable place in the history of the event.
“President Mahama’s government remains fully committed to identifying, nurturing, and developing talents across all disciplines, ” he said.
He charged the team not to only participate in the commonwealth, rather sim to win laurels for Ghana.
The Chief of Staff said the government was working hand in hand with the Ghana Olympic Committee and other relevant bodies in fielding the best athletes at the world stage.

Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee thanked the Chief of Staff for the continuous commitment to sports.
The delegation from the GOC after presenting the baton to the presidency, walked through the principal street of Accra.
Some prominent personalities and authorities who have received the baton is the Aburihene, Aburi Girls Senior High School, Adonten Senior High School, Chief of Dodowa, among others.
