Sege, Aug. 13, GNA – The Ada West District Assembly has proposed the establishment of a specialist children’s hospital to serve communities in the eastern parts of the Greater Accra and Volta regions.
Mr Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive (DCE), made the announcement in a sessional address at a meeting of the Assembly.
He said the proposed facility would be developed under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement to expand access to specialised healthcare services for children in the two regions.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah explained that the initiative formed part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen health infrastructure across the district.
“The true measure of development is not only the roads we build or the structures we complete,” he said, stressing the need to measure development by the quality of healthcare available to the people.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to expanding healthcare services to communities and ensuring that residents had access to quality healthcare closer to their homes.
According to Mr Mills-Nkrumah, the proposed specialist children’s hospital would complement existing healthcare facilities and provide specialised medical services for children within its catchment areas when completed.
The DCE also indicated that work was progressing steadily on the Luhour and Koni Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.
He said efforts were underway to facilitate the upgrading of the Anyamam CHPS compound into a polyclinic, while plans were far advanced for the construction of a new CHPS compound at Badzorhe.
Updating members on developments in the education sector, Mr Mills-Nkrumah said kindergarten classroom blocks were being constructed at Goi and Kposem, while the Bonikope Junior High School project had reached the roofing stage.
He added that the Assembly was using its internally generated funds to construct separate 10-seater toilet facilities for boys and girls at Ada Senior High Technical School (ASHTS), as well as a 10-seater Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP) facility at RC Primary School, Korloudor.
Mr Mills-Nkrumah further noted that, with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), a 24-classroom block was under construction at ASHTS.
He said a six-unit classroom block at Koni and walling works at ASHTS were also ongoing.
