Police confirm injury of eight officers in renewed Sampa chieftaincy clash

Sunyani, (Bono), Oct. 6, GNA-Police have confirmed injury of some officers in connection with a renewed chieftaincy conflicts at Sampa in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.  

According to a statement issued, eight officers sustained gunshot wounds during the chieftaincy clash, and were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital and they were treated and discharged.  

However, one of them who sustained head injury was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to respond to treatment.  

A copy of the statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Police Public Relations and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani explained that the clash between the two traditional feuding factions occurred Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the Sampa main market.  

However, relative calm has since returned to the town, it stated saying the police had beefed up security patrol.  

The statement indicated: “The police received a distress call of an exchange of gunfire between the two factions which resulted in the burning of several stores within the market area”.  

A team of police personnel was immediately dispatched to the scene to maintain law and order, saying a team of police personnel escorting the fire service tender sustained gunshot wounds.  

In the process, the service vehicle with Registration Number GP 686 also veered into a ditch, the statement explained, assuring the public that the police were working tirelessly to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book.
