Akatsi (VR), Aug. 13, GNA –Mr Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has assured residents that the government would prioritise the improvement of health infrastructure in the Municipality.
He said several health infrastructure projects, including Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and nurses’ quarters, were currently ongoing across the Municipality, with some already completed.
Mr Dagba gave the assurance during the 2026 Half-Year Performance Review of the Akatsi South Municipal Health Directorate, where he said government remained committed to improving healthcare infrastructure and access to quality health services.
He said the ongoing projects formed part of efforts to bring healthcare closer to residents, particularly those in underserved communities.
Mr Dagba further assured that attention would be given to the abandoned Akatsi South Municipal Hospital project as part of government’s efforts to improve health infrastructure in the area.
He said improving health facilities and the associated infrastructure remained essential to supporting health workers and ensuring that residents had access to quality healthcare.
Ms Jistine Sefakor Alornyo, the Akatsi South Director of Health Services, said the Municipality currently had 40 health facilities comprising two hospitals, six health centres, 29 CHPS compounds and three clinics.
She said the Municipal Assembly had already supported the construction of the Anyidzime-Zuta facility as well as facilities at Asafotsi and Ahlepedo, while the Wute health facility was currently undergoing renovation.
Ms Alornyo commended the Assembly and other partners for their support to the health sector.
She indicated that the infrastructure interventions complemented routine services, including immunisation and maternal healthcare.
Ms Alornyo said the health facilities were being supported by health professionals who continued to serve residents despite resource constraints.
She also acknowledged donations received from Dr Koku Awoonor-Williams, Technical Advisor at the Health Ministry and Mr Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for the area in support of health delivery.
