Kumasi, Oct. 08, GNA – Obrempong Amponsem II, Chief of Anyima, in the Nkoranza traditional area, has petitioned the government to intervene in the rising tension between the youths of Nkoranza and Mo (Dega) communities.

The tensions have been rising as a result of a longstanding land boundary dispute which had in recent days resurfaced, causing fear and panic among surrounding communities in the Kintampo, Nkoranza and peripheral areas.

Obrempong Amponsem II making the appeal at the Yam Festival in Anyima, noted that, if the current situation was not addressed swiftly, it could lead to loss of lives and properties, explaining that, recently there had been threats on lives by some aggrieved youths on the land borders.

“It is important for the government to take the necessary measures through the security agencies to bring the issue under control.

We have always co-existed peacefully, but these recent developments are not friendly, and we cannot allow it to continue”, he emphasized.

According to the Chief, intermarriages have created strong bonds among the people, and it was crucial to preserve this unity.

Obrempong Amponsem praised the harmony and unity that had existed among Muslims, Christians, and traditional believers in the area.

He said peace was something that should not be underrated and if these predominantly farming communities failed to tolerate each other, it could influence Ghana’s development agenda.
