Cape Coast, Sept. 22, GNA – Ms. Kendra Addo, a 17-year-old Ghanaian living in Canada, and her friend, Ms. Allyson Fristche, have donated more than 1,000 storybooks to four basic schools in Cape Coast under their educational initiative, Read On Pass On.
The two, both 12th grade students of Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School in Ontario, Canada, launched the project to support school libraries in Ghana and promote a strong reading culture among young people.

The first batch of books was distributed to Calvary Hillcrest School, Flowers Gay Schools, University Junior High, and Mary Queen of Peace School — institutions linked to Ms. Addo’s relatives.
The donation was made on their behalf by Ms. Addo’s grandparents, Mrs. Charlotte Kyei Mensah, a former District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Dr. Kwasi Kyei Mensah, and other family members.
In a statement, Ms. Addo stressed the power of books to inspire learning, create opportunities, and drive positive change, noting that the initiative was inspired by family conversations about the lack of adequate reading materials in Ghanaian schools.
“The maiden donation is just the beginning. Many more schools across the country will benefit. With determination, collaboration and faith, big dreams can be achieved,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to classmates, family, and other supporters, while appealing for broader assistance to sustain the project.

Mrs. Ellena Efua Onyame, Headmistress of University Junior High, thanked the donors on behalf of all four schools, while Head Girl Caroline Divida Bannaman Mensah pledged that students would make the most of the books to enhance their studies.
