Adidome (V/R), May 10, GNA-Republic Bank Ghana PLC has commissioned a mechanised borehole for Adidome Senior High School to help address the school’s long-standing water crisis which has affected academic and boarding life over the years.

The project was executed through the Volta Regional Minister’s “Water for All” initiative aimed at expanding access to potable water in schools, communities and health facilities across the Volta Region.

Students of the school had for months endured severe water shortages after the Community Water system reportedly disconnected supply to the institution over accumulated bills, forcing students to move outside campus in search of water for domestic use.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, the Managing Director of the bank said they were committed to improving lives through impactful corporate social responsibility projects, particularly in the areas of education, health and community development.

He said access to clean water remained essential to quality education and healthy living, stressing that no student should struggle to access water before being able to learn effectively in school.

Dr Dzoboku noted that the intervention formed part of Republic Bank’s broader commitment to support vulnerable communities and educational institutions across the country, adding that the bank had taken a deliberate decision to construct mechanised boreholes in four regions of Ghana to support government’s development efforts.

He said the bank responded swiftly to the appeal by the Volta Regional Minister because the plight of the students required urgent attention, expressing hope that the facility would significantly improve sanitation, hygiene and academic activities in the school

Mr James Gunu described the project as a major relief to the school and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring access to potable water across the Volta Region through the “Water for All” programme.

“Water is life and today Adidome SHS has it,” he stated, explaining that he had received several distress calls concerning the acute water shortage confronting the school.

Mr Gunu said the “Water for All” initiative had so far provided water to about 16 communities, schools and health facilities within the region, adding that Taviefe Senior High School would also benefit from the partnership with Republic Bank Ghana PLC.

He expressed appreciation to Dr. Benjamin Dzoboku and the management of the bank for responding positively to the appeal and supporting the region’s efforts to tackle water challenges.

The Regional Minister further urged the school authorities to establish a management committee to ensure proper maintenance and sustainability of the facility for future generations.

Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Dufia of Adidome commended the management of Republic Bank for what he described as a timely and life-changing intervention for the school and the Adidome community.

He said the mechanised borehole would go a long way to easing the burden of the recurring water crisis in the school, which had become a major concern for students, staff and parents over the years.

The traditional ruler appealed to other corporate institutions and development partners to emulate the gesture by supporting critical needs of educational institutions within the area to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Dr Vincent Atiku, the headmaster of ADISEC expressed profound gratitude to Republic Bank Ghana PLC and the Volta Regional Minister for responding to the school’s persistent water challenge.

He said the water shortage had negatively affected academic work, sanitation and boarding activities for a long period, compelling students to spend valuable instructional hours searching for water outside campus.

Dr Atiku noted that the mechanised borehole would greatly improve conditions in the school and restore convenience and dignity to students and staff, adding that management would ensure the facility was properly maintained to serve the school for many years.
