Paga (U/E), Sept. 05, GNA – Mr Robert Dampare, the Kassena-Nankana West District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called on the youth of the district to join hands in the fight against corruption.
He said the fight against corruption required the involvement and support of the grassroots, hence the need for young people in the district to get involved.
Mr Dampare was speaking at a day’s engagement with out of school youth on the “Rule of Law and the Fight against Corruption”, organised by NCCE with support from GIZ and the European Union (EU).
The programme brought together representatives of various youth groups in the district such as mechanics, hairdressers, carpenters, tricycle riders, dressmakers among others to enhance their knowledge on the rule of law, civic rights, legal frameworks such as the whistleblowers act and their role in promoting transparency and accountability.
He said the youth involvement in the fight against corruption was crucial in upholding the rule of law and promoting good governance.
He urged them to adopt values of anticorruption, be advocates for change and report suspected corrupt acts to the right institutions.
Mr Robert Ubindam, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration of the Paga Sector Command, took the participants through various forms of corrupt activities that had a ripple effect on the country.
He outlined the common forms of corruption as bribery, extortion, embezzlement, nepotism among others and urged the participants to be aware of and master the courage to be able to report such activities to the right authorities using the rule of law.
He called on the youth to speak out against wrongdoing in their communities, demand for accountability and transparency, always uphold integrity and help protect the public purse.
