Accra, Sept. 26, GNA – The Ga West National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has inaugurated a Civic Education Club for five schools in Amasaman.

The Club’s representatives were selected from five schools in the area, namely Shalom International School, St Stephen’s Academy, George Manieson Memorial School, Little Light Academy, and Royal Priesthood Basic School.

The new club formed adds up to other civic clubs formed in public and private schools by the NCCE in the Municipality to equip students with knowledge of the 1992 Constitution, governance, and the understanding of civic responsibility.

Madam Edith Akpene Awudor, Municipal NCCE Director, Ga West Municipality, said the formation of the club was one of the NCCE’s strategies to reach out to the youth with civic education activities.

“We formed the clubs in schools in order to inculcate the democratic and constitutional culture in students and teachers to keep civic education activities alive in their schools,” she added.

Madam Awudor said most leaders today, including some parliamentarians and ministers, at some point in time passed through the civic clubs system in their students days.

She stressed that the platform helped prepared them to become who they were today, building their interest in civic education and leadership.

“Prominent people like Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa and the likes all passed through the civic clubs system in their days as students in schools. This helped build their civic and leadership qualities and their confidence for the future,” she added.

Mr Maxwell Antwi, one of the club’s patron, commended the NCCE for its commitment to nurturing students and preparing them for future responsibilities.

He said the Commission’s vital role in equipping young people with civic knowledge and skills, highlighted the importance of civic engagement in national development.

Mr Antwi encouraged the students to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution and serve as good ambassadors of both the NCCE and their schools.

The NCCE Civic Education Club is a non-partisan school-based organisation in Ghana, established by the Commission, to teach students about democracy, citizenship, and the Ghanaian Constitution.

Students engage in activities such as quizzes, debates, and Mock
Parliaments to develop civic values and prepare to be responsible future leaders.

The clubs are present in over 5,000 basic, secondary, and tertiary institutions across Ghana.
