Torrential rains ground vehicles, disrupt movement on Nsawam–Pokuase road

Accra, Aug. 6, GNA – Torrential rains on Tuesday night left hundreds of commuters stranded as flooding paralysed traffic on a key stretch of the Pokuase-Nsawam road.

The heavy rainfall, which began at dawn, rendered sections of the Pokuase-Kotoku route nearly impassable, causing extensive delays and forcing drivers to seek alternate routes.

A Ghana News Agency reporter spent three hours travelling between the two towns, a journey that typically lasts under an hour.

Drivers of private and commercial vehicles, regardless of experience or vehicle size, struggled to navigate the flooded area.

Motorcyclists also faced significant difficulty manoeuvring through the congestion.

Conditions worsened on Wednesday as continued rainfall further hampered movement.

The highway was submerged in parts, leaving workers, traders, and other commuters stranded.

The flooding caused severe traffic build-up and affected several vehicles, especially electric ones, with some losing battery function and requiring assistance.

Commuters expressed frustration over recurring flood challenges.

While workers feared job-related consequences for arriving late, traders worried about losing supply and customers.

They appealed to the government to expedite the completion of roadworks to alleviate the perennial disruption caused by flooding.
