Sunyani, (Bono), Aug. 6, GNA – Some residents in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital have described the military helicopter crash as ‘unbelievable and extremely disturbing’.Â
In a random interview with the Ghana News Agency in the capital, the residents said they were shocked and saddened about the demise of the two ministers of state who died in the crash.Â
The late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Defence, and Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and together with five others died in the fatal crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.Â
The Government has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.Â
Describing the day of the incident as “black Wednesday” Mr Hawkins Alhassan Jascok, a government appointee at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that “They have gone with the required expertise needed for the reset Ghana agenda”.Â
“This a heavy storm to sail through. In fact, the nation has lost true statemen”, Madam Akua Boateng, a trader at the Sunyani Main market stated.Â
She expressed her sympathy to the government, the bereaved families and the entire nation, saying “this news is very difficult to consume, however, God knows the best”.Â
Mr Stephen Opare, a commercial driver said it was still difficult for him to believe the news on the helicopter crash, saying “it’s more like watching a foreign movie” and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.Â
“As a wife I can’t cope with the tragedy. Imagine your husband reported for work this morning only for you to hear information that had died in a helicopter crash”, Madam Leticia Amponsah Gyan, a teacher stated.Â
Meanwhile, the news about the helicopter crash had been topic for discussions on almost all the local FM stations in Sunyani as most of the stations played dirges, as at the time of filing this report.
