Wiawso (WN/R), Aug. 26, GNA – More than 500 young men and women in the Western North Region have been matriculated to benefit from free technical and vocational training for six to twelve months under the newly launched National Apprenticeship Programme.
The beneficiaries would be attached to more than 100 master crafts men in accredited fields such as dressmaking, fashion and design, engine repairs, electricals, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), constructions and carpentry.
Mr Jessy Yaw Aidoo, the Western North Regional Director for the National Youth Authority (NYA), during the ceremony said the initiative aligned with the government’s “Resetting Agenda” which focused on job creation, youth empowerment, and building a strong economy.
He therefore urged all apprentices to remain disciplined, focused, and fully committed to their training, while cautioning them against abandoning the programme midway.
He urged all master craft men to mentor and support their apprentices, helping them to avoid negative influences such as drug abuse, adding that the programme would be closely monitored to ensure it delivered meaningful outcomes for national development.
Mr Wilbert Petty Bretum, the Western North Regional Minister, stated that the programme had been designed to provide free apprenticeship training to the youth, women, and persons with disabilities to equip them with employable skills for sustainable livelihoods.
He also encouraged the masters craft men to uphold the highest standard of professionalism, while instilling courage, discipline, and good character in their apprentices.
