Sekondi, Aug 31, GNA- The National City Guard Union has called on the Head of the Civil Service to help the group to be properly placed on the controller pay roll scheme.
They also prayed the Head of Service, to foil attempt by the Controller General to fade the City Guards from the system and replace them with “security.”
Mr Mawuli Ahiakpor, the Western Regional Chairman who chaired the fifth national Guard Meeting in Sekondi in the Western Region, said the current status of most guards on the pay roll left much to be desired.
He said, “the welfare and placement of Internally Generated Fund staff to controller is a major headache for us as leadership.”
Mr Ahiakpor described the fifth National Guard Meeting as another important milestone to review progress and challenges and also synchronise “our activities across the country for harmony.”
Mr Ernest Awuah, the Head of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Metro Guards Unit, encouraged the leadership to share ideas to improve upon coordination and skills.
He encouraged them to also share best practices, build trust, strengthen both individual and broader National Security framework.
Mr Awuah praised the city guards for their role in promoting safety in communities.
The over 500 city Guards across Ghana ensured that city dwellers operated within the byelaws particularly, city driving permit, trucks operation and covering of commodities and market traders operating within their boundaries.
