Kadjebi (O/R), Aug 31, GNA – The Action Group for Development of Kadjebi-Akan, in collaboration with the Chiefs and the District Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, has mobilised residents of Kadjebi township for a communal labour exercise to tidy the public cemetery.
The two-hour exercise involved residents from the Kadjebi Central, Dubonku, Freetown, and Estate/Zongo Electoral Areas.a
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Wofa Taye, Leader and Spokesperson of the Action Group, said the initiative was aimed at complementing the efforts of the District Assembly, since development was a shared responsibility.
He explained that residents could not continue to sit aloof and expect the Assembly to provide all services, hence the mobilisation drive. He stressed that the exercise would be sustained and not become a “nine-day wonder.”
Wofa Taye said the group had also contributed to the renovation of a bungalow for the Physician Assistant of the Kadjebi Health Centre, clearing of the Kadjebi market and Police Station, among other interventions, adding that more projects would follow.
He emphasised that the development of Kadjebi-Akan remained their prime concern and appealed to government to support efforts to uplift the district capital, which he said had been neglected for far too long.
Mr. Isaac Abavon, Assembly Member for the Dubonku Electoral Area, said it was the duty of Assembly Members to mobilise their electorates for communal activities. He participated in the exercise and encouraged his colleagues to do same.
Mr. Abavon also urged residents to keep their surroundings clean to safeguard their health and wellbeing.
Some participants who spoke to the GNA expressed joy over the communal labour and appealed to the organisers to make it a quarterly event to ensure continuous improvement of the community’s environment.
