Hohoe is ready for Feed Ghana Programme – Agric Director

Hohoe (V/R), Aug. 31, GNA – Madam Sandra Ofori, the Hohoe Municipal Director of the Department of Agriculture, has said the Municipality is ready and eagerly awaits the implementation of the government’s ‘Feed Ghana Programme’. 

The programme which was launched in April 2025, aims to accelerate the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment and enhance economic growth by reducing import dependency while boosting domestic production and export. 

Madam Ofori who was addressing the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the 9th Assembly of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly on the Programme, said the Municipality was ready because several of the facilities needed for the success of the programme were already available. 

She said the Municipality already had farmlands, storage facilities, warehouses and a rice processing plant and farmhouse, which would ensure the success of the programme. 

Madam Ofori explained that out of the priority commodity value chains that had been selected for the realisation of the objectives of the Programme, the Municipality would be viable for many including rice and maize under cereals and legumes, tomatoes and pepper under vegetables, cassava, yam and plantain for starchy crops, poultry and ruminants in terms of livestock and coconut and oil palm under tree crops. 

There were nine sub-development programmes of the Programme made up of crop, livestock, the establishment of farmers’ service centres, farm bank, institutional farming, feed the industry, infrastructure development and agro-production enclaves, innovative agricultural financing and institutional development and regulatory framework. 

Madam Ofori said some activities aimed at improving productivity under the Programme included improved access to irrigation and high-quality agro inputs, enhanced livestock breeds, feed and vaccines and availability of mechanisation, extension, and veterinary services. 

Others included market linkages, secured develop land especially for youth and women, reliable market access, development of public, private lands and possible in-kind payment for private lands development. 

Madam Ofori stated that beneficiaries of the Programme were interested farmers, who should belong to an existing and active farmer-based organisations or individuals coming together form new groups. 

She said beneficiaries in the Municipality were being registered and would receive the necessary preparation for the Programme. 

Madam Ofori appealed to Assembly members to assist the Directorate in securing lands for the success of the Programme.
