Accra, Aug.10, GNA – The Ghana Institute of Architects has extended its deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the bereaved families of the victims in the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6.
A statement issued by Mr Daniel Kwadjo Teye, Honorary Secretary of the Institute, said: “The Council and the entire membership of the Ghana Institute of Architects extend our deepest grief and sorrow at the tragic news of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight persons on board while on a national assignment.”
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the entire nation during this time of profound loss.”
“We urge all to refrain from speculation and to continue showing respect to the memory of the departed and the privacy of their loved ones.”
The eight public officials who lost their lives at the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Defence Minister, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture.
The rest were Dr Samuel Sarpong, the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress and a former Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday, August 6, said: “Ghana Air Force (GHAF) helicopter, Z9, has gone missing while en route from Accra to Obuasi earlier today…the helicopter which took off at 09:12 hours on August 6, 2025, lost contact with air traffic control shortly after.”
Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, later in a press conference confirmed the crash and said “President John Dramani Mahama and the Government extend their condolences and sympathies to the families of their comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country.”
A three-day national mourning was announced by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister in-charge of Government Communications.
The government also directed that all flags flew at half mast.
