GCTU debunks allegations of impropriety, launches probe

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA – The Management of the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has urged the public to disregard a wave allegations, targeting key officials and faculty members.

GCTU added that it had constituted a committee to investigate the allegations of academic dishonesty involving members of faculty, in accordance with the University’s disciplinary code.

In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, the Management said the allegations appear to be part of a deliberate effort to drag the name and reputation of the University into disrepute.

The University said, some of the allegations mainly circulated on social media, were being orchestrated or influenced directly or indirectly by individuals with personal grievances.

It said some of those involved included aggrieved former employees “whose motives are clearly self-serving and parochial.”

“However, we take strong exception to the reckless manner in which unverified allegations are being published and sensationalized without affording the University the basic courtesy of a response or clarification,” it said.

It urged the media to conduct due diligence and seek from the university clarification of issues in accordance with ethical journalistic standards.

“The Management of GCTU wishes to serve a strong and unequivocal warning to all individuals and media entities engaged in, or enabling, the spread of baseless allegations. Any platform or individual found culpable in this regard will be held accountable and made to face the full rigours of the law,” the University said.

The GCTU said it remained focused on its mandate of producing high-quality graduates to lead Ghana into the digital age.

“We reaffirm that Management treats all credible allegations with the seriousness they deserve. In cases where wrongdoing is proven through proper investigation, appropriate action will be taken,” it assured.
