Sunyani, (Bono), Aug. 8, GNA – The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Yao D Tettegah, the Bono Regional Police Commander has called for effective media collaboration in combating crime wave in the region.

He emphasised that modern policing remained a collective responsibility, urging the public to also support the police to stem the growing trend of robberies on some of the highways in the region.

DCOP Tettegah said armed robberies in the region threatened the safety of passengers, drivers and commuters.

The Regional Commander made the call when the Bono and Ahafo Regional Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) paid courtesy on him in Sunyani, recollecting reported incidents of armed robberies on some highways in the region that had led to the loss of precious lives and personal belongings.

Nonetheless, DCOP Tettegah said the regional command had put in place measures, including intensified police patrols to bring the situation under control.

He said the police alone could not tackle the crime wave in the region, hence the need for the media and the public to support.

DCOP Tettegah urged travelers to remain calm, assuring the police commitment to ensure general safety on the highways.

He urged the public not to be reluctant in providing the police with information about suspected criminals, saying with effective collaboration crime wave in the region could be reduced and thereby create a safer environment for all, saying with the police the confidentiality of informants was always guaranteed.

DCOP lauded the media’s role in highlighting security issues in the region and gave the assurance that the police would continue to work tirelessly to maintain law and order and protect the lives of the people.

He reminded the media of their critical role in promoting law enforcement efforts and urging practitioners to support the police in crime control and prevention.
