African Publishers Network mourns with Ghana over helicopter tragedy

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA – The African Publishers Network (APNET) has expressed sorrow over the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State and six other dignitaries in Ghana on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a message signed by its Chairman, Mr Lawrence Njagi, APNET commiserated with the Government and people of Ghana, particularly, the Ghana Publishers Association and the wider book industry, over the “unexpected and devastating” tragedy.

Mr Njagi, on behalf of the APNET Board and Members, described the accident as “sad and fateful,” noting that the victims were on official national duty when the incident occurred.

The statement said the leadership and members of APNET, made up of national publishers’ associations and individual publishers across Africa, were offering “continuous prayers, sincere love and genuine sympathy” to the bereaved families, the Government and the general public.

It reaffirmed APNET’s solidarity with Ghana, pledging commitment to stand with the nation in its grief and calling on the Almighty God to comfort all and grant them strength in this difficult moment.

The victims were en route to Obuasi  Ashanti Region,  to participate  in a ceremony to launch small-scale mining cooperatives to promote responsible mining.

 They include: Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Alhaji Dr Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; and Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO.

The others are Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manean Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The President has announced a state funeral for them on Saturday, August 15, 2025.
