Ho (V/R), May 29, GNA – Keta FC has filed an application before the Disciplinary Committee of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) seeking a stay of execution of the Committee’s decision in respect of a disciplinary case involving the club, pending the determination of an appeal before the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The application, signed by Mr Franklin Deynu, the General Secretary of Keta FC, stated that the appeal was filed on May 28, and was attached to the application.
According to the club, the application was submitted pursuant to Article 35(15)(b) of the Regional Football Association Leagues Regulations.
Keta FC argued that there was a real likelihood that the decision of the Committee would occasion grave and irreparable damage to the Club if the stay was not granted, and the club subsequently succeeded in its appeal.
The Club explained that it was currently leading the league table and was scheduled to play the final match of the competition on May 31; a decisive fixture expected to determine qualification to the Division One League.
It said the Committee’s decision, which deducted three points from the club, effectively denied Keta FC the opportunity to participate in the final match.
According to the club, if the final match is played without its participation and the appeal later succeeds, the opportunity to compete for promotion would have been permanently lost, thereby rendering the appeal nugatory.
Keta FC further argued that the appeal had a strong chance of success because the club had raised substantial legal and procedural grounds.
The club maintained that the decision sought to punish Keta FC retroactively, although the VRFA had not raised any objection to the club’s participation in the competition at any material time.
It also contended that Yingor FC, which initiated the petition, was a third party and therefore lacked the requisite locus to file the complaint.
The application added that the balance of convenience tilted heavily against Keta FC, stressing that the opportunity to play the final match could not be restored once the match had been played.
Keta FC noted that it had invested significant financial resources and effort in preparing for the competition and that denying the club the opportunity to compete in the final match would result in substantial losses.
The Club stated that it had duly paid the required fee for the hearing of the application as mandated by the Regulations.
Keta FC therefore prayed the Committee to grant the stay of execution “to keep the scales of balance even” and avoid irreparable harm in the interest of justice and equity.
Keta FC is battling a protest lodged against them by Yingor FC for not complying with the 2025/2026 Volta RFA Special Rules by not paying fines imposed on them by the Disciplinary Committee of the RFA before the 2025/2026 Volta Regional Division Two Middle League fixture between the two clubs played on 26th May, at Ho Sports Stadium which resulted to 2-3 goal line in favour of Keta FC.
