Accra, June 19, GNA – Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, says his goal for the next three years is to make Ghana a global boxing destination.

He said this when receiving the recently crowned WBO African Bantamweight Champion, Theophilus “Theo Lopez” Allotey, at his Accra office.

Allotey defeated Daniel “The Emperor” Gorsh by a unanimous decision at the Battle of the Beasts boxing event on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The Sports and Recreation Minister congratulated Allotey for his hard-earned victory and commended his coach for the technical brilliance that guided him to victory.

“Their partnership is a shining example of how talent and discipline, when paired with solid coaching, can produce world-class results.

“As a Ministry, we are fully committed to supporting Theo’s next steps toward a world title fight. I assured him that we will assist in mobilizing resources and sponsorship and explore serious training and camping opportunities,” said Mr Adams.

The Sports and Recreation Minister also emphasised the need to nurture more boxing talents so that Ghana could boast more world champions.

“My vision is that within the next three years, Ghana must become a global destination for boxing. That future starts with nurturing champions like Theo, investing in preparation, and building a strong technical base,” Mr Adams said.
