Ho (V/R), June 17, GNA – Mr. MacLean Kwame Nordzi, a contender for the Volta Regional Vice Chairperson position of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has picked number one on the ballot, while his opponent, Ms. Ivy Setordjie, picked number two.
The balloting exercise was held at the Press Centre in Ho on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, under the supervision of Mr. Benjamin Aklama, Election Coordinator of the Volta Regional GJA, following the successful vetting of the candidates.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the draw, Mr. Nordzi described his number one slot as a symbolic sign of victory.
“To me, it signifies a win at first touch. But more importantly, it’s a call for unity for us all to make this victory a reality on June 30—for the progress of the GJA in the Volta Region,” Mr. Nordzi said.
With over 16 years of experience in journalism and corporate communications, Mr. Nordzi said he brings strong leadership, professional expertise, and a clear vision to the table.
He outlined his priorities for the region, which include: Supporting resource mobilization to complete Phase Two of the GJA Press Centre project, Reviving the annual GJA Volta Awards to recognize and inspire excellence, Promoting press freedom and improving journalist welfare, Strengthening capacity-building and professional training for members, Encouraging networking and collaborative initiatives, Advocating for media interests within the Volta Region
“I believe in a healthy contest of ideas, and I’m committed to running a respectful and engaging campaign,” he stated.
“With your support, I’m confident we can build a stronger and more vibrant GJA-Volta Chapter,” he added.
The balloting followed the reopening of nominations for the Vice Chairperson position in accordance with Article 48 (d) of the GJA constitution.
Following the last-minute withdrawal of a candidate during the initial nomination period.
