Draw a roadmap to addressing the demands of the striking nurses – Mr. Adams

Adaklu Tsriefe (V/R), June 12, GNA – Mr. Matthew Ayamba Adams, Director of Adaklu District Health Directorate (DHD) Wednesday called on government to draw a roadmap to solving the concerns of the striking Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association.

“If the government cannot implement all that is imbedded in the collective agreement of the GRNMA, it can sit down with its leadership to draw a road map for the full implementation of the agreement,” he stated.

Mr Adams made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Adaklu Tsriefe in the Adaklu district.

He also appealed to the leadership of the Association to accept what the government could afford to give them now whilst the rest of their concerns were addressed gradually.

He said though the Association has a genuine concern they should not forget the vital role they play in the healthcare delivery of the nation and reconsider their decision.

“Don’t turn your heart from calls from the sick who are crying for your services, be considerate and compassionate,” he told the nurses.

Mr Adams urged the government and the Association to come to a consensus on how the collective agreement could be implemented in its entirety.

The Director disclosed that the leadership of the Adaklu DHD had negotiated with the leadership of the Association in the district and they agreed to allow a nurse to be on a standby at each of the 16 health facilities in the district to attend to emergencies.

He said there were also two Christian health facilities in the district and advised the public to also patronize those facilities.

Mr. Adams was of the view that personnel of the DHD would be visiting the 16 government health facilities in the district to lend their support to the skeleton staff that would be on duty.

A patient the GNA met at the Adaklu Kodzobi Community Health Planning Services Compound said she was very grateful to the nurse who volunteered to be attending to them and appealed to the government to expedite action to address the concerns of the striking Nurses.
