Accra, May 22, GNA – The Ga South Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Municipal Health Directorate, has intensified a public sensitisation campaign on child health promotion.

The engagement with residents at the Domeabra Methodist School Park, formed part of activities marking the African Child Vaccination and Child Health Promotion Week.

It focused on promoting regular child weighing and completion of vaccination coverage across the municipality.

Mr George Obeng Osei, the Ga South Municipal Director of the NCCE, underscored the importance of sustained education on child health as a civic responsibility, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to using every available platform to promote preventive healthcare practices among parents and caregivers.

He noted that this year’s theme, “Every Child Deserves a Healthy Future, Invest in Your Child by Weighing Regularly,” was a call to action for all stakeholders to prioritise the health of children, especially in underserved communities.

Mrs Esther Appiah, a nurse from the Hobor CHPS Compound, representing the Ga South Health Directorate, educated residents on the importance of completing all required vaccinations from birth to five years of age.

She expressed concern over the growing trend of parents discontinuing weighing and vitamin A supplementation after their children turn 18 months old.

Mrs Appiah further explained that discontinuing weighing and vitamin supplementation leaves children vulnerable to diseases that could otherwise be prevented.

She also called on parents to provide their children with balanced diets and guidance, particularly for young girls, as a measure to curb teenage pregnancies.

The event also forms part of a series of engagements lined up by the NCCE to reinforce civic responsibility and support ongoing national efforts to improve child health and reduce preventable childhood illnesses.
