Ashaiman Chief attributes traffic enclave land dispute to overlapping lease claims

Ashaiman, May 30, GNA – Nii Annang Adjor Amui III, Chief of Ashaiman, has attributed the long-running land dispute at the Ashaiman Traffic enclave to what he described as overlapping lease arrangements involving the same parcel of land.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the chief said the dispute stemmed from the allocation of land occupied by transport operators and traders, resulting in competing ownership claims that have been the subject of litigation.

According to him, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) acquired rights to part of the property in 1984, while a traders’ group known as the Peaceful Settlers later obtained documentation covering portions of the same enclave.

The chief claimed that the overlapping claims had contributed to a protracted court battle and delayed planned redevelopment projects intended to modernise the area.

He alleged that the lease arrangements resulted from an administrative error and indicated that efforts had been made by the relevant authorities to address the situation.

Nii Amui III said the disputed enclave was earmarked under the town planning scheme for commercial development, including modern business facilities and organised transport infrastructure.

He noted that delays in implementing the planning scheme had hindered development efforts within the municipality.

The chief commended the current Ashaiman Municipal Assembly leadership for pursuing redevelopment initiatives and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved to pave the way for investment and infrastructure development.

He urged all parties involved in the dispute to explore lawful and peaceful means of resolving their differences in the interest of the municipality’s growth and development.

He reiterated the traditional authority’s support for efforts aimed at implementing the town planning scheme and improving infrastructure within the Ashaiman enclave.
