KNUST warns against syndicate offering fake scholarships and admissions

Kumasi, May 28, GNA – The Directorate of Student Affairs (DoSA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and its U.S.-based scholarship partner, Educational Pathways International (EPI), have denied claims by a third-party offering scholarships and admissions to prospective students.

A statement signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar, University Relations Office, KNUST, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the KNUST and EPI attention had been drawn to reports of fraudulent activities by a syndicate falsely claiming to represent them.

The statement explained that the said group was reportedly offering fake admissions into KNUST, accompanied by a fraudulent scholarship package of GH₵ 50,000.00 purportedly from EPl.

Again, victims are being asked to pay 15 per cent of the supposed scholarship amount as a prerequisite.

According to the statement, the syndicate was fraudulently advertising a fictitious $30,000 international scholarship through KNUST for Ghanaian students to study abroad, demanding a 10 per cent upfront payment.

The statement emphasised that EPI was not in any way affiliated with these fraudulent activities and had not authorised any individual, group, or third party to offer scholarships or admissions on its behalf.

The Directorate of Student Affairs, KNUST, has not been instructed by EPI to facilitate or process such offers, the statement stressed.

“We strongly caution the public, particularly prospective applicants to KNUST, to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any scholarship offers through the official communication channels of KNUST and EPI,” the statement cautioned.

It said anyone engaging in such fraudulent schemes was acting illegally and should report to the appropriate authorities immediately.

The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Kumasi, through the statement, assured its stakeholders that it remained fully committed to the welfare, well-being, and academic success of current and prospective students.

It directed all persons to contact DoSA on (050 644 8966 / 020 659 0845) or visit the official KNUST website: www.knust.edu.gh. for accurate and verified information on scholarships.
