Takoradi, May 28, GNA – Mr Henry Yeledour, the Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has appealed to stakeholders in the tourism sector to collaborate and give a face-lift to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum situated at Nkroful, the birthplace of Ghana’s first President.

According to him, the place required renovation to a world class standard to help shore up the number of tourists that visited the site annually.

Speaking in an interview, he said: “We are concerned that the place is not developed to the status we would have wished, looking at the important role Kwame Nkrumah played in the history of Ghana, Africa and the world at large.”

Mr Yeledour stated that discussions on giving a face-lift to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum was at the preliminary stage, adding that a meeting had been held with the board members of the site to solicit suggestions on how a potential edifice should look like.

“We are looking at it as a pilgrimage so that tourists who will get to Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum in Accra will be eager to know where Kwame Nkrumah comes from.

“So, we have made some suggestions together with the members of the governing board of the place. We have held some lengthy discussions,” he said.

Mr Yeledour said the renovation plan included, putting into proper use, the library which had been locked up for years, the reception, and washrooms and other facilities into good shape.

He said: “The GTA is currently in search for someone with the technical know-how to propose a standard estimate for the renovation.”

He said the facility when renovated would bring in more revenues for development, and called on stakeholders to join hands and mobilise funds to undertake the renovation works.
