Ho (V/R), May 9, GNA – Mr Harry Opoku-Agyemang, Head of Personal Banking at Stanbic Bank Ghana, has emphasised the critical role education plays in the development and long-term growth of the nation.

He said education must be treated as a national priority if Ghana is to achieve sustained progress across all sectors.

Speaking during a brief ceremony on Wednesday, May 7, at Mawuli Senior High School in Ho, Mr Opoku-Agyemang noted that Stanbic Bank’s commitment to educational development stems from its core belief that the growth of any country is deeply tied to the quality and accessibility of education.

“Education is a cornerstone of national development,” he stated.

“At Stanbic Bank, we believe that contributing to education is not just charity, it is a strategic investment in the future of Ghana. If we want Ghana to grow, we must invest in people, and that starts with improving access to quality education.”

He made these remarks while presenting a cheque of GH¢100,000 on behalf of the Bank to support the refurbishment of a six-unit classroom block, popularly known as the “White Block,” at Mawuli Senior High School.

Mr Opoku-Agyemang explained that the bank’s gesture was part of its broader corporate social responsibility and its long-term vision to support educational institutions with critical infrastructure that enhances the learning experience for students and teachers.

“Our goal is to create an environment where learning is not hampered by poor infrastructure. The classroom block we are supporting today will go a long way in improving the academic atmosphere and ensuring that more students have access to conducive learning spaces,” he said.

The refurbishment of the “White Block” was initially initiated by the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU), the school’s alumni association, who have been leading efforts to restore and upgrade key facilities on campus.

Mr Benjamin Yao Dei, Headmaster of Mawuli Senior High School, expressed his appreciation to Stanbic Bank for its timely intervention and support.

He noted that the school had long struggled with maintaining infrastructure due to limited funds and was excited that both the bank and alumni were coming together to drive positive change.

“We are sincerely grateful to Stanbic Bank for their generous contribution,” Mr Dei said.

“This donation complements the efforts of our Old Students Union and highlights what partnerships between the private sector and the education sector can achieve.”

He added that the refurbished block, when completed, will significantly reduce congestion in classrooms and improve teaching and learning outcomes.

OMSU executives present at the event also thanked the bank for embracing the vision of the alumni and responding swiftly to their call for support.

They reiterated their commitment to continuing with similar projects to raise the standards of their alma mater.

The donation to Mawuli Senior High is part of Stanbic Bank’s broader agenda to empower institutions across Ghana by enhancing education and skills development, especially at the second cycle and tertiary levels.
