Tehran, July 14, (dpa/GNA) – A large majority in Iran’s parliament has called for “blood revenge” for supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed by an Israeli strike at the start of the war with Israel and the US, Iranian news
agency Fars reported.
At their, first in-person session more than four months since the start of the war in late February, more than 180 of the 290 lawmakers called for retaliation on Monday, according to a statement published by Fars.
The lawmakers also sharply criticized the negotiations with the US, warning that resolving the problems between Tehran and Washington is not possible through talks.
At the opening of the session, lawmakers waved red flags with calls for retaliation. Iran’s parliament has limited influence.
The real power is concentrated in the state leadership and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Since the 2024 election, conservative hardliners have dominated the parliament and also influence sentiment in the radical wings of the military.
