Easter Celebration: Okaikwei Central MP donates to Christian Council

Accra, April 15, GNA- Mr. Patrick Boamah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central, on Tuesday in Accra donated 1000 packs of water and a token amount of money to the Christian Council of Ghana ahead of this year’s Easter celebrations.

The donation was made to support the Christian Council of Ghana’s events, during the Holy Week including Monday to Thursday, conventions on Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Monday.

The Week will also feature picnics.

In an address at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Boamah said he was reinforcing the spirit of giving and sharing during the Holy week and easter festivities.

Dr Hilliard Dela Dogbe, the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, expressed gratitude for Mr. Boamah’s initiative, citing the scripture, “Blessed is the hand that giveth than receiveth.”

He said the gesture highlighted the importance of community support and kindness during significant religious periods.

” Your selfless act serves as an inspiration to others, demonstrating the impact of individual contributions to the greater good. As the Christian community observes this sacred period, such acts of kindness is appreciated,” he said.

Easter, also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a significant Christian festival commemorating Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

It is a moveable feast, meaning its date varies each year based on a lunisolar calendar, which combines solar and lunar cycles.

Among the key events that leads up to Easter are: Lent- a 40-day period of fasting, prayer; Penance preceding Easter, beginning on Ash Wednesday; Holy Week; the week before Easter, which includes Palm Sunday; celebrating Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem; Maundy Thursday, commemorating the last Supper; Good Friday, honoring the crucifixion and death of Jesus; Holy Saturday; a day of reflection before Easter Sunday.

Theologically, Easter celebrates Jesus’ supernatural resurrection, a core tenet of Christian faith, symbolising victory over death and offering eternal salvation.

Symbolically, Easter eggs represent the empty tomb, while the Easter lily symbolises resurrection in Western Christianity.
