Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly condemns attack on Coordinating Director by NDC

Twedie (Ash), Jan. 17, GNA – Members of the Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly in the Ashanti region, have condemned the attack on the District Coordinating Director by some NDC thugs in the constituency.

The thugs, allegedly led by the constituency chairman and youth organizer, went on rampage in the official bungalow of Madam Eunice Korankye, the District Coordinating Director, on suspicion that she had secretly kept some items belonging to the district assembly in her bungalow.

Mr Anthony Nsiah, Presiding Member of the Assembly, addressing a press conference at Twedie, condemned the unprovoked attack and said the Coordinating Director had not stolen any item from the assembly.

He said due to lack of space, the assembly had over the years used the bungalow of the Coordinating Director as a warehouse where items such as streetlight bulbs, fertilizers, wellington boots and others, are kept for the assembly.

Mr Nsiah said every member of the assembly was aware of this decision by the assembly and there had not been any issue of theft whatsoever.

He said it was unfortunate for the leadership of the NDC in the constituency to accuse the Coordinating Director and ransack her bungalow on suspicion that she had stolen the items and kept them in her house.

Mr Nsiah expressed shock and dismay at the actions of Mr. Solomon Alonga, the NDC Chairman, and the Youth Organizer, who unlawfully entered the Coordinating Director’s residence and took control of the assembly’s property without authorization.

According to the Presiding Member, what surprised members of the assembly was that the unlawful action was carried out with the assistance of the Police, without informing the assembly or obtaining permission from the Coordinating Director.

“This unlawful seizure of assembly property is deeply troubling and uncalled for.

The false accusations of theft against the Coordinating Director and the assembly members are completely baseless.

We stand by Madam Eunice Korankye, and we reject these claims in the strongest terms”, he said.

Mr Nsiah urged the public to disregard the misleading information being spread by the NDC leadership, and that these allegations were part of an attempt to undermine the credibility of the assembly and its operations.

Some of the assembly members, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, made it clear that, they would not support the endorsement of any nominee for the position of the District Chief Executive (MCE), unless the NDC leadership in the constituency issued a formal apology to both Madam Eunice Korankye and the district assembly.

They said the apology was necessary to restore trust and resolve the ongoing conflict.

“We will not support any DCE nominee unless the NDC leadership publicly apologizes to Madam Eunice Korankye and all of us.

The false accusations and unlawful actions must be addressed if we are to move forward as assembly”, they said.

They called on the NDC to take a careful look at their actions and apologize to the District Coordinating Director, the assembly members and the district assembly to help restore peace and cooperation in the administration of the assembly.

With tensions running high, the future of the relationship between the Atwima Kwanwoma Assembly and the NDC remains uncertain, and the public continues to watch as the dispute unfolds.
