Accra, Sept. 8, GNA – Gospel musician Rev. Obaapa Christy has successfully concluded the maiden two-city edition of Royal Praise 2026, drawing thousands of worshippers and gospel music enthusiasts to memorable events in Accra and Kumasi.
The gospel programme opened at the UPSA Auditorium in Accra on August 9 before culminating in a Homecoming edition at the Church of Pentecost, Bantama, Kumasi, on August 16.
The event brought together leading gospel artistes, worshippers, industry players and music lovers in a celebration that blended gospel music, Christian fellowship and Ghanaian culture.
The Accra edition featured performances from Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, Celestine Donkor, Uncle Ato, Kwaku Gyasi and Akesse Brempong, supported by the ROC Band.
Dressed in regal and traditional Ghanaian attire, patrons immersed themselves in an atmosphere of worship, praise and celebration before Obaapa Christy headlined the event with a selection of songs from her extensive catalogue.
The programme moved to Kumasi a week later, where the Homecoming edition featured Mama Esther, Lady Prempeh, Bro Sammy, Quame Gyedu, Ernest Opoku, Kwaku Gyasi and Joyce Blessing, again backed by the ROC Band.
Bro Sammy made a grand royal-themed entrance that reinforced the event’s identity, while veteran performers Mama Esther and Lady Prempeh thrilled patrons with nostalgic and inspirational renditions. Kwaku Gyasi and Joyce Blessing were the only guest artistes to perform at both editions.
Obaapa Christy delivered one of the standout moments of the Kumasi event, appearing in carefully selected royal-inspired outfits that reflected the programme’s celebration of culture and faith.
She opened one segment in an elegant white royal gown, leading a powerful worship session that gradually transitioned into energetic praise songs, drawing worshippers to their feet.
She later returned in a striking green-and-yellow royal costume to perform several of her popular hits, bringing the Homecoming edition to a vibrant close with her trademark vocals, stage presence and audience interaction.
Beyond the music, Royal Praise 2026 sought to promote Ghanaian culture while fostering collaboration among gospel ministers, musicians, media practitioners, content creators and stakeholders within the creative industry.
The organising team, led by Mr Albert Acheampong, Chief Executive Officer of Footprint TV, was also commended for its role in delivering the event.
Media organisations such as Footprint TV, Despite Multimedia, The Multimedia Group, EIB Network, Angel Broadcasting Network and Class Media Group were recognised for helping to amplify the programme’s reach.
Following the successful debut, Royal Praise is expected to return in 2027 with an expanded programme, more performances and enhanced worship experience.
Details of next year’s edition, including dates, venues and participating artistes, are expected to be announced in due course.
