The Ghana News Agency (GNA) was established on March 5, 1957, under the Legislative Instrument (LI) 680 (1971), as part of the government’s comprehensive communication policy that sought to harness the information arm of the State to build a viable, united and cohesive newly independent nation-state.
The Agency’s news operations aim at mobilizing the population for nation building, economic and social development, national unity and integration. In the exercise of its mandate, the Agency has a bedrock of media pluralism serving as the primary provider of news and information to many subscribers, mainly media establishments over the years.
